When it comes to putting up the tree and decorations, Marian and I generally try to make a day of it, if we can.  By this I mean that we prepare lots of good finger food [Herbi and Carni plant-based of course!], open a nice bottle of wine and take our time - sometimes playing [selected!] Christmas music to help us get in the mood. This year, we were particularly pleased with the outcome.

Are you like me and love some ginger syrup in the fridge to pour into a trifle? Or you know for when the PIMMs is calling out to you when friends call over, or it's date night? If yes then meet your sister. Well up to a few years ago I was. Turning 40 a few years back also heralded the removal of cane and beet sugar from my life and my fondness for ginger syrup. Not a bad thing and thankfully it opened the door to tastier sweeteners. Yet it is always around celebrations such as Christmas and Easter that the desire to just have the one surfaces.

Persimmon & Apple Puree

Impress your friends with this very simple fruit puree. I had to share it with you as the persimmon elevates the humble apple puree by adding a special lusciousness and moreish flavour. A handy one to have in the fridge to use on your morning porridge, or nut muesli, as a snack on rice or oat cakes.
 
This puree is also a great companion to coconut cream, adding a light fruity taste.
